Experiment 1 Is a South London-based arts & science collective, specialising in large-scale sensory installations, which fuse sculpture, music, science and performance art.
Founded in 1999 by Lou Smith, Rufus Burdett and Dr Alison Payne, Experiment 1's first exhibition at London's The Truman Brewery, was funded by the British Association for the Advancement of Science, and explored the transient beauty of chaotic systems through a fusion of Art and Science, using randomised circuitry to 'drive' sensory sculptures and environments built by the team.
Today, Experiment continues with the core team of Lou Smith and Lorraine Liyanage, and associate team members Matthew Venn, Targ Patience, Crystal Matthews and Danielle Admiss. The team are committed to developing its original aims, increasing scope, accessibility and interactivity in its exhibitions and to the continuation of a program of novel collaborations between artists, scientists and musicians.
We are planning strategic forays into education, to enthuse young people to get involved in cross-platform projects through workshops and participation in performance.
We have received great feedback from a number of visitors with disabilities who grasp the tremendous scope for benefitting these groups. We are actively seeking collaborations with Local Authority initiatives and established groups in this area.
We are seeking funding and sponsorship to enable continuation and expansion of our Experiments in order to reach a larger audience. We have successfully approached a number of local businesses and international companies for the donation of hardware, software and consumables, and are continuing with our applications for grants, residencies and awards.
We will continue to produce exciting, novel and cutting edge installations, performances and site specific environments, which will challenge, inform and entertain audiences. |
